Title: Coluna (Spine)
Technique: Oil and acrylic polymer on canvas
Dimensions: 20 x 20 x 3,5cm [7.9 × 7.9 × 1.4 in]
Year: 2024
The painting COLUNA presents a fragment of the human body, focusing specifically on the region of the spine. This fragment explores the idea of a body stripped of its anatomical function and turned into a kind of body-landscape. The ridges of the bony extremities are rendered as protrusions “sculpted” by the paint. The choice of a small format comes from the gravitational pull the painting exerts on the viewer: being extremely detailed, with subtle gradations of color, fine brushstrokes mixed with impasto and incisions made with a drypoint needle, the work draws the eye into the labyrinthine furrows veiled by a thin spectral layer over this small totemic patch of skin and flesh.
