An atoll is a circular formation of coral reefs surrounding a central lagoon, resulting from the collapse of ancient submarine volcanoes and the slow organic sedimentation that follows. These are structures born of erosion, shaped by the passage of time and by the persistence of life over disappearance.
In Atoll No. 1, this natural morphology merges with the human body, dissolving the boundaries between skin and rock, anatomy and territory. The work reveals surfaces that evoke epidermis, tendons, and joints, while its reliefs recall valleys, mountains, and hills. There is an ambiguity between the biological and the geological, as if the body were to become landscape and the landscape, organism.
The beeswax applied to the pictorial mixture lends the colors an earthy, matte appearance, reinforcing the reference to mineralized organic matter. The central void, analogous to an atoll’s lagoon, also suggests a bodily interior—a space of flow and libidinal openness. In its circular form and restrained movements, Atoll No. 1 may allude to vortices, whirlpools, and other natural phenomena in which body and land share anatomical and geological properties.

Um atol é uma formação circular de recifes de coral que circunda uma lagoa central, resultado do colapso de antigos vulcões submarinos e da lenta sedimentação orgânica que os sucede. São estruturas nascidas da erosão, moldadas pela passagem do tempo e pela persistência da vida sobre o desaparecimento.
Em Atol Nº1, essa morfologia natural se funde ao corpo humano, dissolvendo as fronteiras entre pele e rocha, anatomia e território. A obra revela superfícies que remetem à epiderme, aos tendões e às articulações, enquanto seus relevos evocam vales, montanhas e colinas. Há uma ambiguidade entre o biológico e o geológico, como se o corpo se tornasse paisagem e a paisagem, organismo.
A cera de abelha aplicada à mistura pictórica confere um aspecto terroso e fosco às cores, reforçando a menção à matéria orgânica mineralizada. O vazio central, análogo à lagoa de um atol, sugere também um interior corporal, um espaço de fluxo e abertura libidinal. Em sua forma circular e em seus movimentos contidos, Atol Nº1 pode remeter a vórtices, redemoinhos e outros fenômenos naturais, onde o corpo e terra compartilham propriedades anatômicas e geológicas.
